Stress
Stress is something that everyone deals with one way or another; stress is inevitable. I personally stress the most about standards. I hold myself to really high standards and often worry if the standards are too high and some of the goals are unachievable. I often compare my accomplishments to those of other people and don't spend enough time reflecting on what I've personally accomplished. The way I deal with this stress is by creating small goals that add up to bigger goals. It's a bit of a cliché as far as goal creating but I feel as if it really works
Totems
A totem is someone who attends or has attended Aldergrove Community Secondary School. This blogger underlined the word Aldergrove; clearly not a lot of people know about Aldergrove. ACSS is the school that always needs a brief introduction when people ask "what school you go to." People who never went to ACSS don't understand how close of a school it really is. At other schools there are cliques that stick together while at ACSS everyone is cool with blending together for events. Having only around 500 students makes it hard for certain events to happen due to lack of bodies but having so little people ups the feeling of community. A totem is someone who leads by example and creates a welcoming atmosphere.

Coaching
Coaching is a very strange thing in the world of sport. Instructing other people on how the way a sport is meant to be played can be frustrating yet fulfilling. Coaches have to have control of their team yet not come across as controlling. Coaches have to give leisure time but also put their teams through strenuous training sessions. The relationship between a player and a coach can be the different between good and great. If the player feels antagonized by the coach he will not perform at the best. The coach must find ways to prick the sides of the athlete for him to find his greatness. The most satisfactory part of coaching is when all the hard work and determination finally pays off and comes out on the field. I hope to coach some kind of athletic team in the future.
Safety
Definition:
The state of being safe; freedom from the risk of injury or danger
How it connects to being a leader:
A leader must ensure that his group is kept safe. It is a leaders job to maintain safety and to not allow harm on any of his followers. The safety of the group should be a leaders main focus as his followers are essential to any sort of success. Although keeping the team safe is important, a leader must take risks as well. A leader must push his or her team to the limits without causing bodily harm. It is the leaders job to find each individuals personal maximum and push them to pass it.

John "the Wizard of Westwood" Wooden
John Wooden was a basketball player and coach. When he was the head coach at UCLA, he won ten NCAA national championships in 12 years.
John Wooden always had something to say and had several brilliant quotes.
"Talent in God given, be humble
Fame is man given, be grateful
Conceit is self given, be careful"
"Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do"
John is famous for having made a success pyramid. The pyramid models the necessities of a champion. It gives views anything negative that could happen during a match and how it should be seen as a positive. John Wooden saw sports in a different way then most, which could be the reason why he won so many championships.

Behavior/ Habits
Definition
(Behavior) -The actions or reactions of a person or animals in response to external or internal stimuli.
(Habits) - A recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior that is acquired through frequent repetition
What it means to me - These two words go together quite nicely. For a habit to form, one must behave in a certain manner several times. To prevent bad habits from being formed, one must behave in the right ways. An example of a bad habit is smoking; while an example of a good habit is brushing your teeth. Behavior can be changed by who people spend their time with. Behavior is a strong representation of who a person is.

Feedback
Definition - evaluative information derived from such a reaction or response
What is means to me - Feedback is an important part of sharing ideas. It can help the speaker realize mistakes or points that could be added. However, it can also be hurtful if taken the wrong way or said with two much negativity. If used properly, feedback can help speakers become more confident in their abilities.
Ethics
Definition - the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.
What it means to me - Ethics are like moral principals. They're a standard that we choose to live by. Ethics are the way we present ourselves and how we should respect others. It's the proper way we should act toward or around others. Without ethics everyone would be rude and self-serving, they would do what is right for them.
Trust
Definition - Firm belief in the integrity, ability or character of a person or thing; confidence or reliance
What it means to me - Trust is never worrying that the person you've instilled trust into will ever violate it. Someone you know will always do what's in your best interest and will always uphold their word. Trust is an important part of all relationships because both sides must trust that the other will always have their back. Putting trust in someone is hoping/ knowing that they won't betray you.
Sacrifice
Definition - the surrender or destruction of something prized or desirable for the sake of something considered as having a higher value
What it means to me - Sacrifice is putting valuables on the line for a greater good, even if that greater thing may not benefit you. A sacrifice is giving up something without fully knowing if the 'something better' is a guarantee. It's to put the well-being of others ahead of your own well-being.
Perseverance
Definition -
(Casual)
It means to keep on going, no matter what. That means no matter how hard the obstacle or challenge, one continues to face it and keep on trying.
Steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, etc. in spite of difficulties

What it means to me - Perseverance is an important aspect of life. The things we want in life are never easy and must be obtained through hard work. Nobody likes hard work but we must push through the obstacles to get to where we want to be.
Perspective
Definition - A way of regarding situations or topics
What it means to me - Perspective is a very important part of life. It's good to understand how other people view situations because everyone has something different to offer. Having a large variety of different perspectives can help solve a problem by seeing it in many different ways. Everyone processes situations differently so the end results may differ but still all be correct.

GOALS
Definition - An observable and measurable end result having one or more objectives to be achieved within a more or less fixed time frame.
What it means to me - Setting a goal makes it possible to increase your motivation and focus while improving your chances for success. Goals aren't always incorporated with sports, they can be educational whether it be a a certain letter grade or just a pass. Even financial, as in saving money for a car.
My goal - my goal is to pass my drivers test. To achieve that goal I am currently taking driving lessons and I feel confident that I can pass the test. Once I pass the test I will then set a goal of saving up for a car
